itIt, starring Bill Skarsgard, Jaeden Lieberher, and Sophia Lillis, DVD It

Before the sequel It: Chapter Two hits theaters this month, be sure to check out the first movie It. One of Stephen King’s most well-known novels, It brings to life the story of Pennywise, the horrifying monster who preys on the innocent children of Derry, Maine and takes the form of a clown. In order to defeat Pennywise, a band of bullied outcasts, who call themselves the Losers Club, must face their own fears and venture into Derry’s underground. Bill Skarsgard does an outstanding job as Pennywise. A better actor could not have been cast to play the evil clown. The children cast as the Losers Club are also perfect in their roles. Their hilarious banter and fearless determination make them one of the best parts of the film. It is the perfect movie for all fans of Stephen King, horror, and creepy clowns.

rocketmanRocketman, starring Taron Egerton, Richard Madden, and Jamie Bell, New DVD Rocketman

Rocketman tells the story of Elton John in a unique and interesting way that I have not seen before. The movie is half musical biopic and half fantasy, creating a fantastic journey through John’s life. Taron Egerton gives an amazing performance as Elton. The movie also stars Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother. I would recommend this movie to any music lover or anyone interested in the inspirational story of a man who overcame the odds to become one of the most recognizable music legends.

every man a heroEvery Man a Hero: A Memoir of D-Day, the First Wave at Omaha Beach, and a World at War, by Ray Lambert, New Nonfiction 940.54214 LAM

Sgt. Lambert, a medic, gives a very direct and forthright story of his experiences in three of the major campaigns of WWII: the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and lastly, Normandy on D-Day. He is also a recipient of the Silver Star. A great read for anyone interested in WWII.

where the sidewalk endsWhere the Sidewalk Ends, by Shel Silverstein, Juvenile Nonfiction J 811.54 SIL

Classic, silly, and fun poems for children of all ages! Pay special attention to the poem “Sick;” it applies to students and people working Monday through Friday. Its fun! A tidbit of information: Shel Silverstein wrote songs for Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show consisting of some great folksy music from the 60’s and 70’s. Enjoy!

succession.jpgSuccession Season 1, starring Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong, DVD Succession Season 1

Imagine if an HBO crew followed around Rupert Murdoch and his family as they make their attempt for global domination of mass media. That’s pretty much what Succession is. Logan Roy is the patriarch of the Roy family and his global media conglomerate. His three children jockey for position within both the family and the company. (There’s a fourth child but he is resigned to lesser aspirations, like running for president). There is also an ugly duckling in the form of bumbling Greg, an outcast grandnephew who falls into the family drama completely by mistake. There is conniving, backstabbing, infidelity, and hilarity; the standard HBO fare. The series begins with Logan suffering from health problems, which the family to form a plan of succession. But when Logan recovers and returns, his children are not immediately thrilled by the development. And, then the finale happens, and no one is ever the same again.
